Valerie Hutchinson | Counsellor
Relationship Counselling Chinnor
Hello, my name is Valerie and I’m fully qualified and experienced Couples Counsellor. I have a ‘Specialist Diploma in Relationship Counselling’ and I’m accredited by the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I am passionate about helping couples build stronger, healthier and sustainable relationships. Therefore, I’m committed to providing highly effective couple therapy and dedicated to continually developing in my role.
Unmet emotional needs
Together we will work to identify any unhelpful patterns of behaviour communication that might have built up over time. You will both be given the opportunity to talk about how you feel, what is not working for you and alongside listening to try to understand each other’s point of view.
We will work together to build a stronger and happier connection between you. Learning to express our feelings in a healthy way to connect with each other more deeply, finding better ways to communicate and feel happier together.
Please rest assured, that I will not judge, make choices for you or attribute blame to either one of you. It will be a safe, confidential space for meaningful discussions and exploration. Hopefully, this will enable you both to move forward more positively in whichever way you choose.
My approach to online couples’ therapy, is open-minded, practical and step-by-step. I will ask you both what you would like to achieve out of the therapy; whether you would like to make your relationship work better, or whether you would like help to separate more amicably. Perhaps you are not sure of the outcome you would like right now, that’s okay, we will work together to help you find clarity. Whatever your goal, I will tailor the sessions for your unique situation.
If you feel comfortable and you'd like to explore how we can work together, please send me a message to ask any questions or to schedule a free initial meeting. I'm eager to begin this journey with you!

Most common issues I support people with:
- Communication Problems:
- Lack of effective communication is a widespread issue. It may involve difficulties expressing feelings, active listening, or understanding each other's perspectives.
- Communication breakdowns can lead to misunderstandings, resentment, and emotional distance.
- Intimacy and Sexual Issues:
- Many couples struggle with maintaining intimacy and a satisfying sexual connection.
- Issues may include differences in sexual desire, preferences, or concerns related to physical and emotional intimacy.
- Trust and Betrayal:
- Trust is fundamental to a healthy relationship. Betrayals, such as infidelity or broken promises, can severely damage trust.
- Rebuilding trust requires open communication, transparency, and a commitment to addressing the underlying issues.
- Conflict and Resentment:
- Disagreements and conflicts are inevitable in any relationship. Unresolved conflicts can lead to resentment and emotional distance.
- Learning healthy conflict resolution skills and addressing underlying issues can help couples navigate disagreements more constructively.
- Life Transitions and External Stressors:
- Life changes, such as career shifts, parenthood, or relocation, can place strain on a relationship.
- External stressors, like financial difficulties or health issues, can impact a couple's ability to support each other through challenging times.
