Introduction
Work Together to Build the Relationship You Want
Feeling unheard, disconnected or stuck in the same painful cycle with your partner can be exhausting. Many couples describe feeling more like housemates than romantic partners, or noticing that things feel distant, tense or flat. These experiences are common in long-term relationships, and they do not have to signal the end. With steady support, couples can improve communication, rebuild intimacy and find their way back to one another.
As a warm and empathic couples therapist and relationship coach, I offer a calm, non judgemental space where both partners can feel understood and valued. My work supports couples facing communication breakdowns, trust issues, emotional disconnection, conflict and life transitions. Together we slow things down, look at the patterns that keep you stuck, and build healthier ways of relating that feel realistic and respectful to both of you.
My approach combines therapy and practical coaching. We focus on emotional safety, clearer communication, long term relationship satisfaction and small changes that gradually shift the dynamic at home. Sessions include practical strategies to help you manage conflict, express needs more openly and strengthen your emotional and physical intimacy.

I provide expert couples therapy and relationship counselling for a wide range of emotional and relational challenges. Top Relationship Issues I Support Couples With
-
Communication Breakdowns
Many couples struggle to express themselves clearly or feel heard, leading to repeated misunderstandings, arguments, or emotional disconnection. I provide counselling and coach couples in practical communication strategies, helping partners express needs effectively, listen actively, and reduce conflict. -
Trust Issues
Infidelity, secrecy, or unresolved past relationship wounds can make it difficult to feel secure. Therapy and coaching help couples rebuild trust, repair emotional damage, and establish transparency, honesty, and safety in the relationship. -
Financial Stress
Disagreements over money are one of the most common causes of tension. I support couples in managing financial pressures, negotiating priorities, and creating agreements that work for both partners, helping reduce conflict and improve partnership harmony. -
Intimacy Concerns
Emotional and physical intimacy are crucial for a healthy relationship. I work with couples to restore closeness, increase connection, and improve sexual and emotional satisfaction through therapy and coaching in intimacy-building practices. -
Parenting Conflicts
Differences in parenting styles, step-parenting challenges, or family boundaries can create stress. I guide couples in effective co-parenting strategies, conflict resolution, and teamwork, helping to strengthen both your relationship and family dynamics. -
Life Transitions
Major life changes—becoming parents, career shifts, relocating, or coping with illness—can be stressful. I provide online counselling and relationship coaching to help couples navigate transitions while maintaining connection, resilience, and mutual support. -
Unresolved Conflict
Avoiding difficult conversations or holding grudges can erode intimacy. Through therapy and coaching, I help couples develop strategies to resolve disputes constructively, improve understanding, and break negative cycles. -
Emotional Neglect
Feeling unheard, unseen, or emotionally unsupported can create distance. I work with couples to identify unmet needs, rebuild emotional connection, and foster a relationship where both partners feel valued, understood, and cared for. -
Jealousy and Insecurity
Persistent jealousy or insecurity can strain a relationship. I provide therapy and coaching to help couples address underlying fears, enhance self-confidence, and cultivate trust, stability, and emotional safety. -
Phubbing (Partner Snubbing)
Excessive phone or device use can leave partners feeling ignored. Therapy sessions focus on creating boundaries, improving quality time, and coaching couples in strategies to stay present, connected, and attentive to one another.
Expected Number of Sessions
The number of sessions varies depending on the couple’s needs and goals. I recommend an initial assessment session to explore your concerns, set objectives, and create a tailored plan. Typically, weekly or fortnightly sessions are most effective, though the pace is adjusted for your progress, schedule, and preferences. My client-focused approach ensures therapy is practical, supportive, and designed to help couples build lasting, meaningful connections.
Most common issues I support people with:
Communication Difficulties
Many couples seek relationship counselling because they struggle to express themselves clearly or feel truly heard. This often leads to misunderstandings, shutting down, circular conversations, or feeling disconnected from your partner. Poor communication can create frustration, emotional distance and ongoing tension. In therapy, we work together to build compassionate, effective ways of relating, and I coach you in practical communication skills that support healthier conversations at home.
Frequent Conflict and Arguments
Disagreements are normal, but frequent or unresolved arguments can erode trust, closeness and emotional safety. Repetitive patterns, resentment, or avoiding difficult conversations are common signs that a couple may benefit from marriage counselling or structured support. I help couples explore the deeper reasons behind conflict and learn to manage disagreements with understanding, care and respect.
Trust Issues and Betrayal
Infidelity, secrecy, emotional affairs or past relationship wounds can break trust and leave both partners feeling raw or uncertain. Rebuilding trust takes time, honesty and guidance. Therapy provides a structured space to talk openly about what happened, its impact, and the steps needed to begin healing and repair—whether you are trying to save your relationship or gain clarity about the future.
Life Transitions and External Stressors
Major changes—becoming parents, career shifts, moving house, fertility challenges, illness or bereavement—can place real strain on a relationship. External pressures such as financial stress, work demands, or family expectations can slowly reduce intimacy and connection. I support couples in managing these stresses, staying emotionally connected, and strengthening the partnership through practical strategies and steady guidance.
Parenting and Family Pressures
Differing parenting styles, step-parenting challenges, co-parenting after separation, and setting boundaries with extended family can all create tension. Couples therapy and coaching help partners work as a team, reduce conflict and maintain closeness, even when pressures outside the relationship feel heavy.
Intimacy and Emotional Disconnection
Many couples describe feeling like housemates rather than partners. A drop in emotional or physical intimacy is extremely common and often linked to stress, unresolved conflict, past hurts or changes in life circumstances. Therapy helps you understand what has been getting in the way and how to rebuild closeness at a pace that feels safe for both of you.

Reviews Online Couples Counselling London

Communication problems! We were totally bogged down by out inability to communicate, everything we said to each other was not being heard or it was being heard not in the way it was meant, Valerie explained that the things we tell ourselves about our relationship become the facts that we view it by and these are not facts they just unexpressed thoughts.
Valerie speaks in very down to earth language and does not sit by and say nothing. She is very proactive, directive and her enthusiasm that we can change is infective!
We are so glad we did this, its been a real journal and we are so different now, we see each and we are 100% committed!
