Sophie | Person-Centred Counsellor for Couples and Families
Couples and Family Counselling Horam
Relationships can bring us great joy, but they can also feel complicated, overwhelming, or stuck. I offer warm, professional counselling for couples and families who want to strengthen their relationships, work through challenges, and find healthier ways of connecting. Whether you’re facing ongoing conflict, communication breakdowns, major life changes, or simply want to feel closer and more understood, I provide a calm and supportive space where all voices can be heard.
Every relationship is unique, so our work together will be tailored to your specific situation and goals. For couples, this might involve rebuilding trust, navigating intimacy, or finding new ways to communicate. For families, we may explore parenting struggles, changing roles, or patterns of tension that have built up over time. My role is to support you in identifying what’s not working, understanding each other’s needs, and developing practical tools to move forward.
You don’t have to have all the answers before you come—just a willingness to explore what’s happening and a hope for change. Whether you come as a couple, a whole family, or as an individual looking to reflect on relationship patterns, I’ll walk alongside you with care, clarity, and respect.

Online therapy
Online therapy offers a flexible and accessible way to receive support from the comfort of your own home. I provide online sessions via Zoom, a secure and easy-to-use video platform. All you need is a private space, a reliable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone.
Many clients find that online therapy feels just as personal and effective as meeting in person. It allows you to fit sessions more easily into your day, avoid travel, and feel comfortable in your own environment. Whether you're an individual, couple, or family, online sessions are available and tailored to meet your needs.
Once we arrange a session time, I’ll send you a Zoom link—no account is necessary, just click the link to join. If you have any concerns about using online platforms, I’m happy to guide you through it step by step.

Specialisations and Expertises
Communication Issues
Poor communication can leave partners or family members feeling misunderstood, frustrated, or emotionally distant. I support clients in learning to express themselves clearly and listen with empathy, creating space for deeper understanding and mutual respect.
Unresolved Conflicts
When conflict lingers, it can erode trust and closeness. I help clients explore the root causes of ongoing tension, break negative cycles, and develop healthier ways to resolve disagreements—without blame or escalation.
Chronic Health & Dementia
Illness can place significant emotional and practical strain on relationships. I offer a safe, supportive space to navigate the impact of chronic health conditions or dementia, helping individuals and families manage changing roles, grief, and stress with compassion.
Intimacy Issues
Emotional or physical intimacy can be affected by life changes, stress, or relationship ruptures. I help clients explore the barriers to closeness and work toward rebuilding connection, safety, and affection in their relationships.
Infidelity
Discovering or disclosing infidelity can be devastating. I support couples in making sense of what’s happened, processing emotions, and deciding—together—whether and how to move forward, with honesty, healing, and care.
Parenting Challenges
Raising children can test even the strongest relationships. I work with parents to navigate different parenting styles, reduce conflict, and find more connected ways of co-parenting.
Blended or Separated Families
Changes in family structure—such as stepfamilies, separation, or divorce—can bring emotional strain and shifting dynamics. I help families adjust with compassion, focusing on communication, boundaries, and maintaining strong relationships through change.
Loss and Life Transitions
Grief, job changes, relocation, or retirement can all affect how we relate to others. I offer support through life’s transitions, helping individuals and families process change and stay connected.
